This course will cover all aspects of effective Operational Risk Frameworks and provide training that will give delegates a new or improved understanding of operational risk management and enable them to build strong and robust Frameworks. The programme includes a review of the essential foundations of an Operational Risk Framework, the available tools and techniques and covers issues that will impact the effectiveness of the Framework and the value added. The course will also cover risk governance, roles and responsibilities and emerging Operational Risk issues, including climate change and geopolitical developments.

About your expert trainer:

Andrew Sheen is best known for the 8 years he spent at the UK regulator, firstly in the UK Financial Services Authority and subsequently at the Prudential Regulation Authority. This involved assessing Operational Risk frameworks in a wide variety of financial institutions. Andrew also represented the UK on the Basel Committee for Banking Supervisors Operational Risk Working Group and the European Banking Authority’s Operational Risk Working Group.

As a member of the BCBS group he was actively involved in the teams draftinga number of Operational Risk papers including the Principles for the Sound Management of Operational Risk and the Supervisory Guidelines for the AdvancedMeasurementApproaches. Before joining the FSA Andrew implemented Operational Risk frameworks in UK banks. After the PRA,Andrew became Head of Operational Risk Use and Embedding at HSBC and subsequently Head of Operational Risk Regulatory Risk Management at Credit Suisse. Andrew is a regular speaker and panellist at Operational Risk conferences globally and provides consulting and training to financial institutions. Andrew is a fellow of the Institute of Operational Risk.

Dr Jimi Hinchliffe has over 20 years’ experience in operational risk management, compliance and regulation and is a highly capable, motivated and skilled senior financial services professional. After completing his Ph.D. on financial regulation in 2000, he joined the UK Financial Services Authority where he stayed for 9 years and held a number of positions including as an operational risk policy expert (during which he was a member of the EU Commission Working Group on Other Risks), as a supervisor/ examiner of major Japanese banking groups and finally as a Basel 2 Technical Specialist and Basel implementation project leader. Jimi joined the GSIFI MUFG in 2008 to be head of Policy, Risk and Regulatory Affairs for the bank.

Jimi left MUFG to form NJ Risk and Regulatory Consulting in 2016 to provide consulting, interim management and training on operational risk and regulatory affairs to a range of clients including banks, investment firms and pension funds. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Operational Risk (IOR) and since 2017 has been Chairman of the IOR in England & Wales. Jimi is also a Member of the Chartered Institute of Securities and Investments (CISI), a Technical Specialist of the Institute of Risk Management (IRM) and a member of the IRM Interest Group Committee. He has spoken at numerous events and conferences on operational risk and regulation and has published numerous journal articles.

As Founder of NDS Consulting, David Goodyear has over 30 years experience in the Banking Industry covering senior roles in Risk Management and Operations at the MD level having started his career as a dealer in Treasury & Trading. Key areas of expertise include: risk appetite framework, operational risk including risk control self-assessment, liquidity risk and contingency plans, recovery and resolution, operations management, operational resilience, onboarding of major asset acquisitions, business continuity management, disaster recovery, incident management, business impact analysis, continuous improvement initiatives, functional integration, cost control & reduction, market risk, credit portfolio risk, and location strategy

David has a PhD in Chemistry and during his career has been responsible for delivering a diverse range of strategic initiatives through his various positions as MD of Operations, Deputy CRO, Head of Operational Risk, Deputy General Manager of London Branch and a Senior Manager in the Dealing Room.
