Managing operational risks more effectively remains a dominant issue for many financial institutions. Key to a firm’s success in today’s dynamic business environnement and complex regulatory landscape are an adequate and effecrtive Operational Risk Management Framework (ORMF), a strong risk control culture, and the development of Operational Risk management as a core competency of every employee.
The primary purpose of the ORMF is to ensure the firm’s long-term financial sustainability and operational resislience and therefore properly managing its tangible (i.e. financial) and non-tangible (i.e. client franchise; human capital; reputation) assets in order to meet stakeholder expectations (i.e. shareholders, clients, regulators, etc.).
This course covers all the elements of a best practice Operational Risk Management Framework (ORMF) designed for a financial services institution (banking, insurance, and asset management) and meeting regulatory requirements and expectations. Attendees will learn of the governance, policies, procedures, and competencies necessary for designing and implementating an international best practice ORMF and the requirements to establish an effective risk control culture.
The course also presents an innovative approach at managing operational and compliance risk through the application of gamification techniques. It also is designed to deliver a blend of best practices, teachings from experience, and case studies. Online games & quizzes will offer attendees the opportunity to test what they will learn from the course in a fun and enaging learning environement.
About your expert trainer:
Sergio Galanti has 20 years of experience in leading roles in the management and oversight of Operational Risk as well as in the design and implementation of Operational Risk frameworks and practices, in the following organizations: Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, UBS, RBS, Coutts, Rothschild Bank, and Credit Suisse. In 1998, Sergio began his journey in the Operational Risk discipline with Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation in London where he established and led the Operational Risk Management function for the Europe Division.
He then moved to UBS AG, Zürich, in 2004, where he joined Group Operational Risk and contributed to the design and implementation of the bank’s first firm-wide Operational Risk Framework. During the seven years at UBS AG, Sergio was also responsible for Operational Risk for the Corporate Centre Division, Group Offshoring and Outsourcing, as well as firm-wide Risk Operations and Reporting.
In 2011, Sergio moved to RBS Coutts, in Zürich, where he took up the role of Head of Operational Risk Framework & Policy and led the design and implementation of the Three Lines of Defence Model and Risk Appetite Framework.
Throughout the years, Sergio has often been a speaker at international events on Operational Risk current trends and topics, and also an organizer of thought leadership roundtables for the advancement of the Operational Risk methodology.
Sergio holds a degree in History from the University of California, Berkeley, a Master of Applied Economics from the San Francisco State University, and an Executive MBA from SDA Bocconi, Milan. Since 2014, Sergio is an independent consultant assisting clients with Operational Risk management software solutions, game-based digital learning, gamification, design & implementation of the Operational Risk Framework & Policy, and regulatory risk change management.
