Constant Proportion Portfolio Insurance has existed as a hedging technique since the late 80’s and continues to be widely used as a hedging mechanism to protect against downside exposure. For market participants it remains a core concept to understand and for derivative professionals an important hedging technique to be fully familiar with.

The course is structured to provide a broad introduction to the concept before progressing to discuss practical design and implementation considerations, choice in delivery formats, structure of legal documentation and points of negotiation to be aware of. The latter part of the course introduces the new disruptive innovation of individualised-CPPI (“iCPPI”), a very important and recent evolution of the CPPI concept that is still in the early stages of wider market adoption. This will likely be of particular interest to delegates with a remit to monitor new ideas being brought to market that have the potential to deliver competitive advantage.

Whilst the course by necessity covers the theory behind the concept, the focus is firmly on the practical implementation of using these techniques. The format of the course uses a mix of presentation, interactive discussion and laptop-based exercises to ensure delegates have opportunity to verify their understanding of all concepts discussed.

The course is presented by one of the leading experts in this space who remains actively involved in facilitating the delivery of CPPI-based solutions to leading financial institutions around the globe.

About your expert trainer:

Prior to founding Investment Solutions Strategy Consultants, David Macdonald was a Managing Director within the Investment Banking Division of Barclays Bank (formerly Barclays Capital) where he was the Global Head of their Retail Insurance Solutions business. His remit was to work with Life Insurance companies to develop new policyholder investment solutions, covering the full spectrum of Investment, Pension and Annuity based products.

David started his career in the Financial Services industry over 20-years ago as a technology expert, latterly developing Risk Management & Trading IT platforms over a 5-year period for Deutsche Bank (1995 – 2000), before embarking on an MBA at Erasmus Graduate School of Management in The Netherlands.

With a career spanning Technology, Structured Derivative Solutions and a deep knowledge of the Life Insurance industry, David has been directly responsible for creating a number of innovative solutions to the global Life Insurance industry. Whilst at Barclays Capital, David was responsible for co-developing the concept of open-ended CPPI based solutions (2002) and subsequent to this he was the product innovator behind both option on iTIPP solutions (2006) and the disruptive new technology, Micro-CPPI / iCPPI (2007).
